Graduated as a dentist at the Ghent University, Belgium. He completed the postgraduate training in oral implantology and finished his PhD in 2010. He worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Malmö in Sweden.

Currently, he is head of the department of reconstructive dentistry at Ghent University.  He is author and co-author of numerous scientific publications and lectures internationally.
